Psychiatric Rehabilitation Programs (PRP) are for adults with serious and persistent mental illness.
Services are provided onsite and offsite by trained psychiatric rehabilitation practitioners.
Beginning at enrollment and routinely throughout a member’s time at the PRP, skills are assessed to determine a member’s needs. If skills or resources are needed, staff is qualified to teach, provide, or access them. Rehabilitation is provided to all members through individualized meetings, educational groups, and organized social activities. For each member, individualized rehabilitation is provided in the environment of need as indicated by on-going assessments.
Self-care skills: Hygiene, grooming, dietary planning, food preparation, age-appropriate involvement with self-administration of medication
Social skills: Conflict resolution training, improved peer interactions, anger management, improved interactions with authority figures, assertiveness training, assessing risks in social environments
Independent living skills: Maintaining personal living space, community awareness, mobility skills, monetary management, housekeeping, the importance of punctuality, task analyses, completion of chores, staying safe while in the community, education on age-appropriate meal preparation, doing laundry
Leisure and recreational activities: Development of healthy leisure activities, use of leisure to develop teamwork and peer support behaviors, promotion of productive and rewarding use of time spent alone.
Schedule planning: Daily schedule planning, time management, development of daily routines, development of routine before going to bed at night to prepare for the next day.
Cultural interests: exploration of activities that support the youth’s cultural interests by self-expression through artistic modalities.
Medication and symptom management: Age-appropriate techniques and resources to provide understanding of the roles and effects of prescribed medication and various health symptoms.
Healthy living education: Age-appropriate techniques and resources to understand basic, nutrition, exercise and sexuality.
